Everything You Need to Know About Popmoney®
We’ve all been there – you come home after date night with your spouse and don’t have enough cash for the babysitter. You’re out to dinner with your friends apologizing as you hand eight credit cards to the waiter. Or maybe you’re making the rounds at your child’s soccer game collecting cash and checks for the annual coaches’ gift.
All of these uncomfortable situations can now be avoided with Popmoney, a secure payment service that eliminates the hassle of checks and cash. Popmoney allows you to send and receive money with just a few clicks by moving funds directly from your Point Breeze Credit Union account to the recipient’s account at any financial institution, without sharing private account information. Best of all, it’s a free service for all Point Breeze Credit Union members!
While you might think Popmoney is just for tech-savvy millennials, it’s easy enough for anyone with a computer to use. Here’s what you need to know:
What is it?
Popmoney is a Person-to-Person payment service that you can access online. The service allows you to send, receive and request money via your computer. All you have to do is log in to Point Breeze’s online banking
service, go to the Move Money tab and click on Popmoney.
Why use it?
Using Popmoney saves you lots of time, and since it’s through Point Breeze it’s safer and more secure than popular P-to-P payment services like Venmo. While services like Venmo, Paypal and Apple Pay use a middle account for transferring money to and from recipients, Popmoney cuts out the middleman. Instead, funds move directly from bank account to bank account.
How does it work?
There are three simple steps for sending and receiving payments.
To send money:
- Send payment to recipient’s email or mobile device
- The recipient receives a notification to deposit their money
- Your payment is deposited directly into their bank account
To receive money:
- Request money from a person or group
- That person then receives a notification to pay the requested amount
- They approve the payment, which goes into your account
Is it safe?
Unlike other popular P-to-P payment services, Popmoney has extra security measures in place. Popmoney sends a one-time verification code to the phone or email address where the payment notification was delivered to prevent fraudulence. The user must provide that verification code back to Popmoney to verify their “ownership” of the mobile number or email address before the payment can be deposited.
