Community Impact

Building up and enriching our local communities

We are committed to giving back and making an impact in the local communities we serve

Invest in Yourself

Point Breeze contributed $60,000 to the Y in Central Maryland in 2024 to help support their mission of developing the full potential of every individual through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

At Point Breeze, we guide members towards financial wellness, just as personal trainers guide us towards wellness of the body and mind. Our friends at the Y of Central Maryland share our commitment to stability, flexibility, and growth. In this fun video series, Jesse Bell, SVP, Chief Member Relationship Officer at Point Breeze, and Jess Chiaramonte, Executive Director of the Y in Catonsville, explore the ways our missions overlap (and break a sweat in the process.)

Stability Video Transcript
All right. So this exercise is about stability. That's what we're gonna do. Get right on the end of the, uh, step down here, straight back, And we're gonna look to have our heel touch the floor just like that. Sounds good. Um, so thinking about stability, especially in the middle of this exercise, right? It's your core, I'm thinking your community, right? Who stabilizes you? Who is your core, right? And that's your core. That keeps you stable, that keeps you coming to the Y every day? Well, at Point Breeze, you know, stability is, I mean, same with the Y, you know, we serve our members and serve our community. So we want to be able to provide them that superior financial experience or they want to have that foundation. They want to be able to say, this is where my nest egg is. It's secure, it's safe, and sound Safety and security is core for the Y too. Right? So we have the same, right. It's the same thing here. Absolutely. And that it's all about the members. Yeah. I was like, we're tired. I mean, I think myself, like a lot of people, we live in a little bit of chaos and I'm kind of lucky because my stability is here, right? I work here, but I also get to be a member here. Kind of similar to just, you know, coming to work every day knowing how we are at Point Breeze and how we try to treat our members and our staff and create that stable environment. They want to be able to know that, hey, we can count on Point Breeze. Look, stability is not easy. We are learning that currently right now. Right. Good stuff. Good stuff. Good stuff. Appreciate it. Stay balanced!

Flexibility Video Transcript
All right, y'all. So this exercise is all about flexibility. Okay. You're gonna step up. You want to get a nice deep stretch here. Okay. And just fall right into the position. Okay. And that's it. It's that simple. There is not an organization that has to probably be more flexible than the Y. It is our job to meet community where they're at. And we know that we have so many different people that are coming here, and so many different members. So we program for babies, six weeks old. We program for seniors. We program for infants, toddlers, schools. So our programming has to meet everybody and whatever there might, you know, whatever their needs might be. Yeah. And for Point Breeze, I mean, flexibility is, is, is at the essence of our core. I mean, you know, we're not a one size fits all. Um, we have to meet our members where they need to be met at. So you have to be flexible. You have to be nimble. Um, everybody's financial experience is different. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And so, like, as a credit union, um, we're, we can offer more than what big banks offer. We can be more flexible for, for our members. Stay flexible. Stay flexible. Yeah.

Growth Video Transcript
All right y'all. So this exercise is all about growth. So all we're gonna do, come down and grab it. We're gonna have a nice wide base. And guys, we're just gonna come all the way down and then come on up. It's easy as that. I mean, growth is everything at the Y. We wanna grow our members. You can grow your body, you can grow your strength, you can grow your spirit. And at the Y you don't have to grow alone, right? You're growing with the community. Growth does not happen overnight. At the Y we know what the lifelong process, and we are here for them, our members, and our community. Every stage that they're going through. Well, growth at Point Breeze means everything. You know, we want to help grow our communities. We want to help grow our local businesses, um, similar to how these weights are, they'll help me build this muscle that I'm trying to achieve right now. Absolutely. We empower our members to think long term and build towards their goals Just like us. Absolutely. A credit Union is about people helping people, and our mission is to provide a superior financial experience, which means helping our members grow in their financial life. Good stuff. Y'all. Good stuff. Good stuff. Good stuff. Good stuff. Keep growing.

The Point of Giving

In 2023, we empowered each of our office managers to choose a cause they’re passionate about. We gave $65,000 to five different charities serving our local communities. Then, we produced videos highlighting each organization's impact and how the support from Point Breeze Credit Union will help them fulfill their missions.

Point Breeze’s donation will go directly towards the organization’s Phoenix Fund, a medical fund for animals that require life-saving intervention and treatment. Watch video to learn more.

Humane Society Video Transcript
Charitable giving is important to Point Breeze because it shows a sense of community shows that our members, that we really care about them. We have to raise over a million, million dollars a year to sustain our current mission. And that's not an easy task. We rely on organizations or, you know, corporate partners and many, many donors, individual donors that help us reach that goal every year. My name is Christina Jorgenson and I am the branch manager for the Bel Air Office. My name is Bob Citrullo and I'm the Executive Director for the Humane Society of Harford County. The mission of the Humane Society, which was created obviously over 75 years ago, was initially to rescue and house abandoned and homeless and abused animals in the Harford County area. I picked the Harford County Humane Society because I'm passionate about animals and giving them second chances. The charity resonates on an emotional level with me by helping animals in need that don't have voices for themself. I don't wanna see anything suffer. We provide the services for our owners to surrender their animals if need be, but it also goes a little further than that. We provide community outreach. We do things like vaccine clinics that are vital to reaching the community members. Because I'm from Harford County, I used to be a vet technician a long time ago, and so helping animals is fulfilling for me. The donation from Point Breeze is vital to our medical area to help animals that come in that require lifesaving intervention. Our charitable giving says that we care about our community. We want to help people meet their financial needs. In recent history, we would bring in approximately 3000 animals. Last year it dropped a little bit. This year we've actually gone up 56%. The number of animals that come in, what they need, even the basic care of feeding and, and taking care of them, it's an enormous undertaking. It's important because they're helping get animals off the street controlling pet population, and also putting animals into homes where families may need the comfort of a pet. Of course, I'm passionate for, obviously animals in general, but the people that work with them, taking care of them, taking care of the animals, and taking care of the community.

The donation from Point Breeze will help enable the team to invest in their key programs, specifically law enforcement training and swim scholarship programs for individuals with autism. Watch video to learn more.

Pathfinders Video Transcript
Our charitable efforts say that we are an organization that cares about our member, that that helps our community to thrive. Businesses like Point Breeze Credit Union are, are really identifying those organizations that do a lot and are helping to make sure that those organizations can continue to meet their mission. I'm Norma Jajistar. I am the branch manager for the Hunt Valley location of Point Breeze. Hi, my name is Rebecca Reinzi. I'm the Executive director of Pathfinders for Autism. Our mission is to support, um, individuals with autism and their and their families, uh, so they can live the best life that they can. They really take pride in helping their individuals with different abilities, and they customize the help for these individuals. It feels great to, to be valued by the, the people we serve and the businesses that are in the communities that we serve. It is important for me because, um, my son has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, so I've watched him grow on a day-to-day basis, watch his struggles, watch him wanting to be independent just like everyone else. Last year we served over 20,000 Maryland residents. Uh, throughout our variety of programs, we've trained thousands of law enforcement officers, um, fire, uh, fighters and EMS to understand autism so that in an emergency situation they have more tools and resources. The reason why I work here at Point Breeze is it, it brings me a sense of joy. I've watched over the past six plus years I've been here to see Point Breeze giving back to our community. Without the help of organizations such as Point Breeze Credit Union, um, you know, what would an organization like Pathfinders be like? You know, where would these individuals be helped? All of our programs are offered free to the families that we serve. The donation from Point Breeze will enable us to invest in our priority program areas, things like our law enforcement training and our swim scholarship program. It is important to our members that we are giving back to the community when they bank with the financial institution, They, they wanna know where the profits are going. It's important for businesses to support nonprofits because those nonprofits are providing programming and supports to their customers. I do believe that all businesses should engage in charitable giving if they are in a community, they should be able to help the community that they do business in. Community, to me means a sense of place, but it also means a sense of belonging that you, you have connections to businesses, uh, people, and you have a, a reliable network of folks that can help you and then we can help them. The point of giving is people helping people. That's what Point Breeze does.

Point Breeze's donation will help fuel the nonprofit’s critical programs that provide free care and support for young adults and their loved ones impacted by cancer. Watch video to learn more.

Ulman Foundation Video Transcript
It's important to me to show the community that we here at Point Breeze, we care about our community. There are awesome organizations and businesses like Point Breeze Credit Union, that are doing the right thing, that are supporting organizations that are community based, that are helping the people that are in our community that need help. My name is Lennore Brownley. I'm the office manager at the Owings Mills Point Breeze Credit Union. Hi, I am Brock Yetso, President and CEO at Ulman Foundation. The mission of Ulman Foundation is to create a community of support for young adults and their loved ones affected by cancer. The reason I picked the Ulman Foundation was because my mom had cancer back in 2000. They said, 'hey, she's not gonna make it' because the chemo destroyed her body. But I had a talk with my mom and said, 'hey, you hang in there because I'll be here every step of the way.' And she did. So she survived that. And then 10 years later she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She beat that. Ulman Foundation was founded by one of my dear friends Doug Ulman, who was a three time cancer survivor. And my mom was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer, but Ulman Foundation was in my corner, in our family's corner. They helped us navigate one of the most challenging moments in my life. My values align with the Ulman Foundation because they give back just like Point Breeze. Our programs and our partnerships are 100% free of charge to our patients and families. And those programs would not be possible without the generosity of individuals, but most importantly corporate partners in the community. So the generous donation of Point Breeze Credit Union makes our work possible. I just believe in helping people and making them feel better in any way I can. I'm in the Healing Hearts organization– where we go around to different hospitals, different houses. Anyone who's not feeling well, just go and talk to them, cheer them up a little bit. We are meeting patients and families where they are, whether that's in the cancer center, in the community, or in our own facilities. The work that we do is so personal, right? A cancer diagnosis. And so to feel and hear the appreciation that we have from individuals, corporate partners, community organizations really makes our work meaningful, but really inspires and fuels us to, to do it every single day. Our commitment to our members to show that our members, that we are here for them. We are here to take care of all their financial needs, to let them know that we are not just a bank, that we are family

The Point Breeze donation will go towards updating the organization’s equipment to help advance their first responder capabilities. Watch video to learn more.

Rosedale Volunteer Fire Company Video Transcript
This is, um, engine 282. It's an old Mac fire engine. Everybody knows the Bulldog Mac from the trucks, but they made fire trucks as well back in the day. We transitioned Engine 282, same number here. Um, this much larger piece, uh, has bigger hoses, a larger pump capacity. Point Breeze was able to provide critical support to help us fund this new special rescue vehicle. This is a smaller vehicle that any of our firefighters or EMTs are able to drive. It has a full array of EMT and special equipment for medical emergencies. So yeah, we're so proud of our members who worked really hard to design this piece with the community in mind so that we are ready for their needs to serve them as we go forward. So the community is integral to our service. We do go out and provide fire and EMS protection, but without the community coming back to us, um, it's sort of a one-way street. And I was a very excited when Point Breeze reached out to us. You can make a million dollars and hate your job. Um, I don't make any money here, but I love what I do every day. You make a difference in people's lives. It's a terrible day for them, and you come in with an answer and a solution and help them out and calm them down and make things better.

Point Breeze’s donation will support the important programs that help individuals with disabilities throughout Maryland find employment and secure housing. Watch video to learn more.

Penn-Mar Humane Society Video Transcript
Point Breeze is not only committed to working with our members, but supporting the communities that they live and work in. When I have the opportunity to interface with businesses and with supporters in the community, I just tell them our story and I'm always very, very humbled if they are willing to come alongside us and support our work. My name is Jamie Sykes. I'm office manager of the Westminster office. My name is Gregory Miller and I'm the president and CEO at Penn Mar Human Services. Our mission is to support individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities, to become just as meaningful members of the society as possible and to take full part in the communities in which they live. My daughter, Molly, she's special needs. She's autistic, so it's close to my heart. I'm passionate about helping special needs children feel accepted. I know my daughter, she just wants to be treated like everyone else, just like all her friends. I started with Penn Mar 35 years ago. We play a vital role in supporting and encouraging folks to really become meaningful participants in their community. And the disability community is one of the last communities that's been brought into the mainstream of our culture. As they've aged out of school and have become adults organizations like Penn Mar have been there to help them. Community to me is being there for each other and helping a greater cause, knowing that there's people out there that are donating to this charity and volunteering at this charity to help. There's many people out there that just need a little bit of help to live a normal life. Community to me is what I call the kaleidoscope of every person, what they want, what they dream, who they are, who they're becoming. Hearing somebody who got a new job, talk about what that means in their life. Those stories are what drive me in my work because it is about how lives are actually being changed for the better, and how people are now able to exercise more control over what they want out of life. It's important to give back to our communities that we serve our members in. I think about my daughter's future all the time, where she's going to work, where she's going to live in the community, knowing that there's places out there like Penn Mar for my daughter when she's older to help her in her life. Organizations like Point Breeze that come alongside Penn Mar and say, we want to invest in your mission. They can do that knowing that that investment is actually changing somebody's life for the better.

Feeding the Hungry

Helping to make sure all individuals in our communites have access to nutritious food is important to us.

For seven years, our annual “The Harvest” Golf Tournament, benefiting the Maryland Food Bank, has offered an afternoon of premier golf, lively competition, and the opportunity to give back to fellow Marylanders in need. With the support of participating golfers and many generous community sponsors over the years, "The Harvest" has helped Point Breeze raise a combined total of $220,000 in donations to support Maryland Food Bank’s ongoing hunger-relief efforts across the state.

This year's tournament was held Monday, September 15, 2025, at Country Club of Maryland in Towson, Maryland. Learn more about this event here.

We donated $30,000 to First Fruits Farm, a non-profit Christian ministry dedicated to providing fresh, nutritious produce to local food banks, homeless shelters, soup kitchens and other food providers. Our donation fully funded construction of a new 6,000 square foot, tech-savvy greenhouse to increase their year-round production of fresh produce in response to rising demand. When Point Breeze came to us and offered to fund the building of our flagship greenhouse in our greenhouse growing program, we were beyond thrilled. Um having these greenhouses on site allow us to not only grow food all throughout the seasons, because the need really never stops, but it allowed us to expand our educational programs. Uh, to work with many people all throughout the region to really grow some very high quality produce, to increase our capacity for donations and really to just continue to impact more people throughout the region. Point Breeze Credit Union, we cannot thank you enough. We are thrilled to be partnering with you guys to be able to, you know, start off this program in a really amazing way. These greenhouses have impacted so many people, they've impacted our operations here. Our volunteers have been so engaged and interested in participating in our harvest in those greenhouses and we're just so excited for what the future holds and what we've been able to accomplish so far but we're able to grow from there.

Point Breeze Credit Union is a full-service financial institution with locations throughout Maryland.
